Newbie adventurer Bell Cranel becomes the talk of the town after narrowly escaping death at the hands of a minotaur and running through the town square covered in blood, screaming at the top of his lungs.  But being rescued by the lovely blonde female adventurer "The Sword Princess" Ais Wallenstein brings with it a personal determination he needed to push himself to the next level and that opens up a whole new world for him.

Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? is an anime set in a RPG style world where people take on the profession of adventurers traversing the local dungeon to battle monsters.  Through this they level up their abilities and skills and make a living by collecting stones from the creatures they defeat exchanging them for money at the local repository.  These adventurers are apart of Familias aka guilds that are overseen by higher beings (gods and goddesses) who have taken on human form and serve as the heads of the Familias and are the ones who administer the leveling up of their attributes.

Bell is the sole member of the lowly Hestia Familia, led by busty goddess Hestia who is very much infatuated with Bell and is more interested in keeping him to herself than excelling the status of their Familia.  But when Bell falls for the lovely Sword Princess, Ais Wallenstein, his determination to get to her level in the hopes of impressing her ignites in him a rare skill that begins a very rapid leveling up of his attributes.  Hestia keeps this a secret from him, for fear of losing him, but she quickly learns she at the very least she has to support his new found desire and abilities.

This first season follows Bell through his development of fighting and magic skills, personal confidence and building a team that can support his growth.  Along the way he has to deal with new found fame and divisiveness from those who resent how quickly he's is leveling up, which also makes him of great interest to gods and goddesses like Freya and Hermes.  It also brings with it a new found level of admiration from the ladies that Bell is incompatible of dealing with, as neither is Hestia who becomes insanely jealous of every woman who is around him.

Overall, Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? is a very fun series that seems to take a lot of inspiration from fellow anime series Sword Art Online, and Greek mythology (especially Clash Of The Titans) and gives it it's own light fluffy spin with a spreading of fan service mostly centered around boobs and Bell's face being smashed into them, you know typical ecchi stuff!  Though unlike some of the more notorious ecchi Bell is hardly seeking them out, he's simply seems to be a magnet for them.  What I liked most about the series is it finds a good balance of levity and drama and is not heavily focused on dungeon battles and the RPG style aspects that a series like Sword Art Online tends to focus on.  In this it manages to set itself apart and not simply be another RPG anime clone but its own lighthearted adventure series with good character development and interesting story-line.
