View More From: Mondo Macabro
The opening scene of The Inferno depicts the doomed love affair of Miho and Ryuzo, hunted down by Miho's husband. While Ryuzo is killed, Miho gives birth to her daughter Aki, as she takes her last breath. After 20 years, Aki, who bears a striking resemblance to her mother, has become a daring race car driver. However, she senses dark forces are out to end her life. In search of answers about her past, she returns to the secluded village where her mother died and confronts her dysfunctional family who abandoned her as a baby.
Aki's presence sets off a series of tragic events as she seeks revenge for her mother's death. Inspired by the 1960 film Jigoku, The Inferno explores the hellish existence of Aki's life, before leading us on a journey into the afterlife where we witness the grotesque tortures and monstrous creatures that punish the damned for eternity.
